This family-owned gem offers a welcoming, cozy atmosphere where travelers and locals alike can pause, refuel, and enjoy classics that evoke the spirit of the Old West.

The restaurant’s highlights tell the story of its culinary roots. The chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken, served with silky mashed potatoes and generous cream gravy, capture that perfect comfort-food balance—crispy, rich, and deeply satisfying. The blooming onion appetizer, paired with a tangy ranch dip, and the crispy fried pickles offer the ideal start to any meal, while the nachos and hot wings with fries make for casual, robust fare suited for sharing.

The menu’s diversity also shines through with Tex-Mex touches, including a well-seasoned chicken enchilada plate accompanied by classic sides of rice, beans, and a fresh side salad dressed in ranch. For those who appreciate variety, the steak selections—from the hearty Cowboy Cut to the flavorful Hunter’s Choice—deliver generous portions of tender, expertly cooked meat that align with the rugged Texas identity the restaurant embraces.

Visitors consistently praise the inviting service—warm, respectful, and patient. While some noted slight lapses in attention, the overall hospitality complements the laid-back, unpretentious vibe. The presence of cold beer rounds out the experience, perfect for unwinding after a day on the open road or a busy week.

The restaurant’s space may be modest but it carries a genuine, small-town charm. It’s an ideal stop for families, road trippers, and anyone craving a no-frills meal with big flavors. The daily specials, especially the beloved all-you-can-eat fish on Fridays, add an extra reason to return, fostering a loyal community around this hidden roadside treasure.

In essence, Cowboy's Restaurant serves more than food; it offers a brief escape into Texas tradition, where the portions are hearty, the recipes are trusted, and every dish carries a story of home-cooked care. We were on our way to Del Rio when we passed this place. The amount of food was spectacular considering what we paid for it. Delicious too. Staff was very kind and patient with us tourists. Great place to take a break from driving and have something to eat.

On our way to Brackettville we decided to stop here and have lunch. It’s a small cozy place. We ordered the onion blossom as an appetizer, it came with a side of ranch for dipping. My husband ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and cream gravy on both. It can with a side salad and he chose ranch dressing and it was delicious. I ordered the enchilada plate which comes with your standard sides. The rice and beans were cooked perfectly as if your own mothers had made them. The beef inside the enchilada was seasoned very well. We enjoyed our food. I only gave 4 stars on service just because I was never asked if I needed a refill or anything else. Overall we enjoyed this place.

I was probably the only non cowboy here but I was hungry after hiking Garner state Park and needed some food so figure why not stop by here and stopping here really made my day. After a nice few hours of hiking I saw this was the closest restaurant that wasn’t in San Antonio that I could find so I decided to stop by despite being a little wary since this restaurant doesn’t have a website. This place literally made my day, i had the Wednesday special chicken fried chicken (though you can get steak as well) and it was phenomenal. It was everything I could have wanted, good flavor, filling and left me stuffed. I finished it all, no leftovers today. The chicken was perfectly fried, mashed potatoes, heck the whole meal was just great. Then the servers who were working, Carrie and Brianna, they were friendly and great. I would highly recommend if you’re in the area to stop by and grab some lunch or dinner, and the frozen margarita is worth it as well. If I’m ever in the area again I’ll be back. It’s definitely a good off the highway joint to stop n grab a quick bite
